However, unlike with PS4, you have the option to create aMouse steers ship. Press left alt and move mouse left or right to look in that direction. Make sure you center (or close to center) the mouse when you let go of left alt or you'll start to turn. I find that the locked control mode works best for me. There's no lag between control movement and ship action. Pick a control scheme and practice.

I know most games (haven't checked NMS) allow the use of keyboard, mouse and controller. Try the other flying control setting, i cant remember which one is set by default, but I found the game way more intuitive once id swapped to the other setting. Tethered vs locked! Yeah try locked, the ship should feel a lot better.
It sort of reminds me of the Assassin's Creed 1-3 issue with gamepads on steam.
